10 Sauna Accessories for your Beach Sauna Trips: Because Soggy Towels Happen

You know that feeling when you rock up to a beach sauna and realise you're missing something obvious? Maybe you're balancing on one leg trying to get changed outside (we've all been there), or post sauna, your towel is too soaked to dry yourself with. Yep. That's where the right sauna accessories come in.

Beach saunas are glorious—the sea, the views, the steam are fabulous. The set up, much as I ABSOLUTELY love it and embrace it - can be a little bit squashed or a little bit rustic. And no-one wants my bum in their face. So here's a checklist of the sauna accessories I never leave home without.

1. Make-Up Wipes (Trust Me on This One)

If you wear make-up, take it off before you get in. Otherwise, hello panda eyes. A quick swipe with a make-up wipe will save you from melted mascara and give your skin a chance to breathe. I’ve been a fan of these wipes from Boots for as long as I can remember now! They cost £1, are hypo allergenic and don’t dry out. When I’m at home I try to use a cleanser and a wash cloth but when I’m heading to the sauna, these are very convenient and work brilliantly.

2. Your Favourite Swimwear

I’m assuming that your sauna etiquette is to wear swimwear but if not, please ignore this section.

I liked this swimsuit for the sauna for a number of reasons. First, it’s not a “tummy control” swimsuit - and SO many are these days. The thought of wearing a swimsuit with any kind of control just gives me tummy ache. And if I’m honest, I don’t like the thought that my body needs to be “controlled”! I also liked the print, the v-neck, the clever ruching, the soft cups (no underwires here) and the fact that it comes in sizes 8-26.

Personally, I’m a fan of a bikini in a sauna and when cold dipping - but it’s a purely personal choice.

3. Towels: One for Sitting, One for After

This is a total game-changer. I take a lightweight towel for inside the sauna and another dry towel for afterwards. Trying to dry yourself on a soggy towel is not much fun! This lightweight towel from Dock & Bay (£21) will do either job perfectly.

It’s worth bearing mind that whilst in the sauna itself, you may want something a little thicker, simply because the sauna benches can be a little hard. But it really comes down to personal preference.

4. A Water Bottle That Stays Cool

Hydration is key! But avoid metal bottles that heat up like a kettle in the sauna. A double-insulated water bottle is ideal like this Owala Free Sip water bottle (£23) which I just might be putting on my birthday list! These come in 3 different sizes and in over 25 colours, so you’ll be spoilt for choice!

5. The Denham & Derby Sauna Hat (And the Clever Little Bag That Comes With It)

Let’s talk sauna hats. Ours are made from a natural wool blend that protects your head from overheating, helping you stay in the sauna for longer meaning that you can feel its full effect more deeply. You won’t believe the difference it makes until you try one. Oh, and ours comes with a bag with a little pouch inside it for your jewellery—so you don’t have to dig around for your rings and earrings afterwards.

You can shop our sauna hat on Amazon HERE

6. A Bag With Compartments (Because No One Wants a Wet Sandwich)

A bag with compartments will save your life. One pocket for dry stuff, one for wet. Bonus if it has a waterproof lining. Pop your water bottle in the side and you’re good to go.

I recently came across this Lipault Berlin Backpack (down to £92 from £115) when I was in London and I fell in love with it. Really it’s for days out in London when I need to carry a laptop but it will also double as my sauna bag, my flight bag, my weekend away bag - my everything bag.

In all honesty, my Tommy Hilfiger bag that I bought from the Wembley outlet stores when I went to see Harry Styles a few years ago now is rather worn out and made me feel like a scruffy chuff - so it was time for an update.

7. Easy Underwear (No Underwire, No Fuss)

After a sauna, your body is warm and maybe a little damp, so you want to avoid anything too tight or fiddly. I always go for a soft bralette and easy knickers—they're comfy, quick to throw on and won't make you feel restricted.

My favourite brand is Stripe & Stare. Their underwear is made from bamboo so it’s good for the enviroment and I love that their bralettes can pop over my head. Their knickers are easy to climb into too! If you’re tempted to take a look, I’ve got a discount code (BETH20) which will give you 20% off the entire full priced collection at Stripe & Stare.

This neon pink bralette is in the sale at Stripe & Stare HERE (£10) and the matching knickers are available available in 5 styles. My favourite style, the original knicker, is linked HERE (£18)

8. Loose, Cosy Layers for After

There’s nothing nicer than wrapping yourself in loose, soft trousers and a soft sweatshirt after a sauna. Think easy, breathable, and layerable. You might be warm for a while, then get chilly quickly, which is where layers really come into their own.

These scuba pants (£50) and scuba bomber jacket (£45) both from Asquith, are perfect post sauna and beyond. Layer a vest underneath for ease of dressing and comfort. Asquith has a great selection of bamboo vests HERE

9. Flip Flops or Crocs (Don’t Judge)

You will not want to faff with trainers or anything fiddly when you're nipping out of the sauna to take a cold shower, or a dip in the sea. Flip flops or Crocs are your sauna best friends. Trust me.

I love the colour of this pair of flip flops from Havianas (£27). My daughter recently bought a pair of Havianas back from Brazil for me (where they are only £6!) but I can absolutely see their value and I am a total convert.

Bonus: A Snack (Power Balls Are My Go-To)

After a sauna, your blood sugar can dip a little and you might be ready to re-fuel. A quick snack like a power ball, some nuts, or a banana will help you feel grounded and make that drive home more pleasant.

Final Thoughts

Sauna sessions are meant to be fun and restorative, not stressful. With the right sauna accessories, especially if you're heading to a minimalist beach sauna, you can make the whole experience smoother, more comfortable, and let’s be honest—a lot more enjoyable.
