Why You Need a Business Coach for Women (Who Has Been Where You Are!)
Why You Need a Business Coach for Women (Who Has Been Where You Are!)
Back in 2009 I left my career as a lawyer and I started building my personal styling and fashion blogging business. With 3 young children it was an effort but I put in the hours, did the reps, and built a successful service based business.
My fledgling business morphed into a business where I represented brands, styled photoshoots and brand campaigns, presented on TV and radio and did a million and one things that I can’t even remember now!
In 2016 I came across the concept of “passive income” - which is an oxymoron because there’s absolutely nothing “passive” about “passive income”.
The concept of no longer trading time for money appealed to me. Whilst I still loved working with clients 1:1 I also wanted more flexibility in my week. What passive income meant for my business was creating a digital product - a course, membership, e-book or workshop that I could sell whilst I slept. It sounded like a dream come true. And so easy!
And yet it wasn’t.
This is my story of how I got there…
How I Learned About Business the Hard Way
In the early days, I knew NOTHING about how to create the business of which I dreamed. I invested thousands of pounds in my education. I bought every course under the sun from all the big-name entrepreneurs you can think of. I was intent on figuring out the secret formula — and so many times I nearly got there. But then something happened and I felt as though I was back at square one.
COVID hit the day that I launched my flagship styling programme. Then my instagram and facebook were hacked and I lost not only the platforms but their advertising capabilities. At that stage I wasn’t nimble enough to see challenges as opportunities and I felt deflated. And a failure.
So I made an even bigger investment: I paid for a business coach for women. I truly believed that this was what I needed.
Finally, someone would take all the tiny parts of my business which were laid out on the floor, like an aeroplane engine, put them all together and at long last, my business would head down the run way and finally take off.
Right?
Wrong.
Hiring that business coach turned out to be a complete waste of money. I didn’t get the support or clarity that I needed. My “coach” (let’s call her Shania) was more interested in playing her music in Nashville and creating pretty graphics on Canva, than she was on understanding my business or the data in it.
I was left feeling more confused and overwhelmed than ever. Not only that but I felt embarrassed, ashamed and stupid. And I had to tell my husband too.
What I truly needed was someone who could see the bigger picture. Someone who was interested. Someone who had walked the path and knew what it entailed. Someone who understood all that I was grappling with and who could help me to put it all together.
That’s why today, I’m so passionate about being the business coach for women that I once needed myself.
I Tried Every E-commerce Business Model Under the Sun
But back to the story…
Over the course of building my business, if there was a way to create a passive income online I tried it.
Workshops, e-books, memberships, online courses — you name it, I tried it. I worked my SOCKS off. I pivoted, tweaked, adapted, adopted, listened and implemented all that I could. I believed that if I just kept trying, something would click.
But one experience almost broke me.
I was running a live webinar, full of excitement and hope with almost a thousand people on it. But instead of support, I faced an unexpected wall of vitriol from some of the women attending. Mid-presentation, my mouth went dry. My hands started shaking. I wanted to throw up. Every fibre of my being told me to close my laptop and hide — but I carried on.
Later, the launch strategist I was working with told me she had never seen anything like it.
The stress from that experience triggered terrifying episodes of vertigo, with doctors saying it mirrored the after-effects of a small stroke. It was one of the darkest, scariest times in my business journey. I was forced to step back, re-evaluate, and truly ask myself: Where do I want to go from here?
Still, I felt like a failire.
Figuring Out What I Loved — and Building a Business That Felt Good
Through all the many years of trial and error, frustration and heartbreak, I finally identified the parts of my business that I loved:
Blogging
Being a business coach for women
Running my Amazon business (a whole other story in itself!)
Affiliate work with small brands that I loved
I finally learned to understand myself and discovered that my human design is a “manifesting generator”- someone who is multi-passionate with lots of energy and interests.
I stopped chasing every shiny object and instead focused on building something sustainable and deeply fulfilling.
Helping other women who are feeling lost, overwhelmed, and exhausted is part of my calling.
I realised that my (sometime hideous) experiences weren’t for nothing — they had prepared me to be the kind of business coach for women who truly understands.
Because I’ve been there. I get it. All of it.
What Makes My Business Coaching Different
Today, when I work with women, I bring everything I’ve learned to the table. And for some women, I don’t charge. It’s my way of giving back to the world.
From blogging, building a website, building an email list, creating funnels, using social media and Pinterest, writing e-books, hosting webinars, podcasting, presenting and using pretty much every tech platform that there is, I GET it. I understand. I know the fears, the frustrations and the mental shifts it takes to hold your nerve in business.
I also know that running your own business is WAY more expensive than we ever imagine.
More than anything I love being a business coach for women who are just starting out on their journey. I love working with those women who need a second pair of eyes on their websites and funnels, an ear to share their hopes, dreams and fears with. Someone who has walked through the toughest of times and who has come out the other side.
But more than just the practical skills, I offer something even more important:
A kind, supportive, and friendly space where you’re not judged, rushed, or overwhelmed.
I put the hard work in so that you don’t have to.
I made the mistakes, spent the money, and faced the setbacks/illness/burn out so that you can skip years of trial and error.
With me as your business coach for women who are at the early stages of their business, you get to have a business buddy and fast-track your success — with someone who’s in your corner every step of the way.
